Cherries could be called the "star of the market" when it comes to Chilean fruit export to the Chinese market, but in the last two years, nectarines have emerged as a "new force".
Statistics of the Chilean Ministry of Agriculture show that between January and November 2017, Chile exported over 3 thousand tons of fresh nectarines to China. In 2016 that was only 109 tons over the entire year.
The Minister of the Chilean Ministry of Agriculture, Carlos Furche, told the media that China has the potential to surpass The United States as the largest export market for Chilean nectarines. According to statistics of 2016, Chile has already replaced Thailand as the main source of fresh fruit import for China. The large market potential of China leads Chilean fruit producers and merchants to pay close attention to the requirements of Chinese consumers.
