"The cherry production volume in major production areas in Shaanxi, Hebei, Gansu, and Shandong decreased by 70% as a result of the sudden cold spell in spring of this year. Some production areas in Shandong had a production volume decrease of around 70%-80%, while areas in Shaanxi and Gansu had production volume decrease of as much as 95%." This is according to Liu Wenpo, board chair of Beijing Runfuyuan Trading Co., Ltd.
"The current price of cool-house cherries from Dalian is 50 yuan [7.78 USD] per 0.5 kg. The Red Light cherries from Yantai sell at 12-13 yuan [1.87-2.02 USD] per 0.5 kg. These prices are similar to last year. The reduced production volume does not change the social status of cherries. This may be the reason for the overall depression of the cherry market."
"We operate our own business and represent others in cherry sales. Cherries from our orchards in Dalian and Yantai are sold in wholesale markets, supermarkets, and fruit stores in first and second tier cities throughout China. The supply season of Dalian cherries began on February 7th this year and is estimated to last until around July 20th. The retail season lasts 20 days longer this year than last year."
