Chinese and Vietnamese markets to open to Murcian table grapes

News Classification: Market News Publish Time: 2018-10-08 00:00:00

The table grapes of the Region of Murcia, which is one of the largest producers in Spain, may enter China and Vietnam next year, according to the forecasts of the Council of Agriculture, which has received the visit of technical delegations from both countries in recent weeks.

These have toured several farms and packing centers to check the phytosanitary and food safety conditions, with positive reports, as stated by the general director for Agriculture, Francisco González. "They have been able to see that the hygiene standards here are superior to those of other sites." Members of the association of stone fruit producers and exporters (Apoexpa) have also participated in the meetings.

The Vietnamese technicians asked for additional information about some grape treatments employed because of the rains. It is expected that bilateral agreements between Spain and the two aforementioned countries could be signed before the end of this year. The table grapes will be exported by sea, with a journey that will last between 18 and 20 days. During transportation, it will need cold treatment to avoid the appearance of live larvae.

With this, another gap is opening in the Asian markets at the initiative of Apoexpa. Two years ago, stone fruit shipments, mainly of peaches from Frutas Esther (of Abaran), were authorized by China. The first container was shipped by air, and the goal is for trains to be used, after the Russian Government authorized the transit of these products through its territory. There are other obstacles, however, to the use of the train that travels the route between Madrid and Yiwu, near Shanghai.
