China: "New apple harvest may increase overall purchase price"

News Classification: Market News Publish Time: 2018-05-09 00:00:00

"It is our understanding that the frost of April 6th and 7th has affected 70% of all major apple production areas. The cold weather was most severe in Shaanxi and Gansu. In some places the harvest was reduced by 50%-60%. Not only the production volume suffered, the product quality too has gone down. It is difficult for apple farmers to operate according to schedule in the aftermath of this disaster." This is according to Guo Lei of Luochuan Meirun Fruit Co., Ltd.

"Under regular weather conditions, the annual red Fuji apple production season starts in October and the supply period lasts about 10 months. The price of red Fuji apples is currently stable, but the new apple harvest is expected to increase the overall purchase price. As for export, our observations show that market operations are relatively stable. The Chinese government has recently announced increased customs tariffs for US apples, but that only has limited influence on the Chinese apple market. On the one hand, China does not import large volumes of apples from the USA. On the other hand, the product quality of US and Chinese apples is almost the same."

"We cooperate with apple orchards that occupy 70 hectares in Shaanxi and Gansu, where we carry out plantation, management, and storage. Our main product variety is the red Fuji apple. Our apples currently sell in supermarkets and fruit stores in first and second tier cities in Guangdong, Shanghai, Sichuan, Hubei, and Hainan."
