INDUSTRIAL NEWS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS

China's apple production down by 20%-30% this year.

News Classification: Market News Publish Time: 2018-08-20 00:00:00

According to a Polish news report: "China is the world's largest apple producer. Nearly 40-50 million tons of the world's total annual production of 80-90 million tons of apples come from China. This year, China's apple production will decrease by 20% to 30%. It is expected that in many markets, there will be less stress on the sales of apple concentrate products and dessert apples from China and these gaps may be filled by EU countries.

It is also worth considering other factors, such as US policy toward China, Mexico and India. These have been the main destinations for US apples in the past few years, and the Chinese have also sold their apple concentrate products in the US market. The restrictions among these countries may make room for Polish production."

FreshPlaza recently interviewed the Shandong Haijiang International Trading Co., Ltd., an experienced fruit import and export company, mainly exporting apples, garlic, pears, ginger and grapefruit.

Lisa of the Shandong Haijiang International Trading Co., Ltd said during the interview that the reduction in production of Chinese apples mentioned in the Polish news report is basically consistent with the facts. She said that after the impact of the freeze this year, the output of the apple producing areas in western China has been seriously reduced. It is expected that the output will be reduced by 30%-40%. Relatively speaking, the eastern producing areas are much better and the output was basically not affected by extreme weather. Overall, China's apple production this year fell by about 20%-30%.

When talking about the impact of production cuts on the import and export trade volume, Lisa said that the total amount of imported apples may not be affected, because the Chinese market has always demanded apples with unique varieties and good taste. And considering the huge base of the planting area, it can still be self-sufficient despite the fall in production. In terms of exports, this year's apple exports will be reduced and export prices will be slightly higher than in previous years. As a result, China's competitiveness in the international market will slightly weaken.
